A lot of time we have found that people do not know what they are missing in their Heating and Air Conditioning system, because they have never experienced a system that operates like it should, so they just accept what they have as normal.
I installed a system for a lady years ago that had loose ductwork, old inefficient equipment, that had not been maintained and reduced her bills so drastic that the EMC actually came out to make sure she was still getting all of her power through the meter. (I changed her from an A/C with straight electric heat to a heat pump, from 6 SEER to 12 SEER and duct sealed her ductwork)
Heating and Air Conditioning Systems are mechanical objects. Yes they have improved so much over the years that, like automobiles they can run for years without being taken care of. But, like anything mechanical if you want to get the life out of it and the best operating efficiency over its life time you need to have it maintained. Preferably by someone that is properly trained and has the proper equipment to not do damage to your system or your house.
